Monaco Grand Prix – A brief history of F1 at Monaco
The Monaco Grand Prix is a street circuit laid out on the city streets of Monte Carlo and La Condamine around the harbor of the principality of Monaco. It is commonly referred to as “Monte Carlo”, because it is largely inside the Monte Carlo neighborhood of Monaco. It is one of the shortest tracks in the FORMULA 1, but one with a lengthy history. The Monaco GP appeared on the F1 calendar for the first time in 1950 and has been a continuous part of the championship since 1955!
More information about the circuit
Additionally, the street circuit is known for the zero margin for errors, the many gear changes (more than 60 times in the 3,337 meter lap) and the guts it takes to drive on the limit. Max Verstappen experiences this firsthand during F1 Monaco GP of 2016 when he crashed 3 times in as many days.
Tax haven Monaco persuades active (and non-active) drivers to settle in the Principality. This will give you an opportunity to spot Daniel Ricciardo or Max Verstappen walking from their homes to the circuit. Ask any FORMULA 1 driver which Grand Prix they would like to win most, and the answer is almost unanimous: the Monaco GP! In conclusion the charm, prestige and glamour are an irresistible combination.
