The Italian GP has been around at Monza since the beginning of the official FORMULA 1 championchip. That was during the world championship in 1950. They have always held it, except for 1980, when they held the Italian GP at Imola for the first time.
The circuit lies in Monza and measures 5,793 meters long. Monza itself is a good 20 kilometers north of Milan. The track officially has 11 turns, but in fact there are only 4 real bends.
The other corner numbers indicate no less than three chicanes. All meant to take the speed out of the track and banish the dangerous slipstream fights of the past.
Despite these measures, Monza GP is still the showcase for high-speed circuits. To illustrate: almost 80% of a lap on this circuit is full throttle in a modern FORMULA 1 car.
