The Autódromo José Carlos Pace circuit, also known as Interlagos, hosted the first Brazilian GP – São Paulo in 1973. Located in one of the favela districts of the city of São Paulo, the track counts 15 turns and is 4,309 meters long.
Brazil has a rich history of great FORMULA 1 drivers. Think of Emerson Fittipaldi, Nelson Piquet and of course the legendary Ayrton Senna. The track, however, is named after São Paulo-born FORMULA 1 driver José Carlos Pace. Pace won the Brazilian GP in 1975 and tragically passed away in a helicopter crash two years later.
The circuit also goes by the name Interlagos. This name comes from the fact that the track is located between two large reservoirs, or lakes. For drivers, it is a very technical and challenging circuit. That’s due to the height difference and the many bumps in the road surface.
