The guide for the Portugese Grand Prix

FORMULA 1 in Portugal is back! In this guide, we provide you with the latest information about the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve! On this page, we share useful ticket tips to help you choose the best seats for this spectacular new race.

The Portugese Grand Prix Circuit

The Portuguese Grand Prix will be held at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, better known as the Portimão Circuit. The Portuguese Grand Prix returns to the Formula 1 calendar in 2027, after the circuit previously hosted the events in 2020 and 2021.

The circuit has a length of 4.692 kilometres, and the Grand Prix will be contested over 66 laps. The Autódromo Internacional do Algarve features 16 corners, with expected lap times in 2027 to be around 1:25.

The circuit was opened in 2008 and hosted a Formula 1 test in the same year. The official lap record is held by Lewis Hamilton, who set a time of 1:18.750 during the 2020 Portuguese Grand Prix.

Grandstands on the circuit of Portimao

F1 Portugal

The Portimão Circuit features a wide range of grandstands (see above). Most grandstands have a large capacity, allowing the circuit to accommodate approximately 90,000 spectators per day during a Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend.

Main Grandstand for FORMULA 1 in Portugal

The Main Grandstand For the Formula 1 in Portugal is the largest grandstand at the Portimão Circuit and the only covered grandstand. From this grandstand, spectators have an excellent view of the start/finish line, the pit lane, and the team garages. Those seated higher up in the grandstand also enjoy a great view of both the first and final corners of the circuit.

Grandstand Lagos

The Lagos Grandstand, together with the North Grandstand, forms the grandstand complex located between Turns 1 and 3. The North Grandstand offers an excellent view of Turns 1 and 2, while the Lagos Grandstand is situated between Turns 2 and 3, providing great views of both corners.

The opening sequence of corners is widely regarded as the best overtaking opportunity at the Portimão Circuit, making both grandstands excellent locations to enjoy the on-track action up close.

The Portimao Grandstands

The two Portimão Grandstands are located between Turns 11 and 13. From these grandstands, spectators enjoy an excellent view of the famous “Rollercoaster” section of the circuit, where dramatic elevation changes and high-speed direction changes create spectacular racing action.

This iconic section is one of the main reasons why many Formula 1 fans consider Portimão to be one of the most beautiful and challenging circuits on the Formula 1 calendar.

Sagres/Solverde/South Grandstands

The final two corners of the Portimão Circuit feature several grandstands with an excellent view of Turns 14 and 15. These grandstands are located at the lowest section of the circuit, providing spectators with a unique view of the cars as they exit the final corners and head towards the start/finish area while the track rises uphill.

How to get to the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve

The Autódromo Internacional do Algarve is relatively easy to reach. The nearest airport is located in Faro, which is approximately a 25-minute drive from the circuit. In addition, there are several popular destinations nearby where visitors can stay, such as Portimão, Lagos, Faro, and Albufeira. This provides plenty of accommodation options in the surrounding area of the circuit.

Portuguese Grand Prix Ticket Options

The Portuguese Grand Prix has not yet released any information regarding FORMULA tickets for the 2027 and 2028 editions. It is expected that, similar to other European Grands Prix, several ticket categories will be available, including grandstand tickets, General Admission tickets, and VIP packages.

The Portuguese Grand Prix is considered one of the most popular events on the Formula 1 calendar, thanks to the stunning surroundings, the location of the circuit, and the unique atmosphere surrounding the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve.
