Singapore stands out as one of the most stunning and extensive circuits on the Formula 1 calendar. It poses a formidable challenge for drivers navigating through warm and humid conditions. The tiniest error can result in significant consequences.
Regardless of your choice of grandstand (or standing area), your view will primarily capture the section of the track directly in front of you. This limitation is inherent to a street circuit. However, the excitement of artificially illuminated F1 action set against the captivating backdrop of Singapore’s skyline at night more than compensates for it. Factor in the lively atmosphere surrounding the circuit and daily concerts featuring prominent artists, and you’re in for a one-of-a-kind racing experience. The Singapore Grand Prix stands as an immensely popular sporting spectacle, drawing both the local community and a substantial number of tourists to Marina Bay every September.
Important Information:
Grandstand Overview
Discover the prime viewing experiences across Marina Bay Circuit’s grandstands:
Pit Straight: Situated along the straight of the Singapore circuit, this grandstand offers a spectacular view of the race’s start and the post-race podium. Keep in mind that it falls on the higher end of the pricing spectrum in Singapore.
Turn 1: With an impressive perspective on Turn 1, this grandstand provides an excellent view of the race’s commencement. From here, you can observe cars braking and attempting overtakes. It is among the more premium grandstands on the Singapore circuit.
Turn 2 Grandstand: Offering a panoramic view of the first three turns and the straight, this grandstand provides a live experience of the race’s start and overtaking maneuvers towards Turn 1. Although it ranks among the pricier options, it comes highly recommended for those with the budget to spare.
Raffles Grandstand: Positioned at the apex of turn 5, this grandstand on the left side of the circuit also provides a view of the Formula 1 paddock. Note that tickets for this grandstand are on the higher-priced side in the Singapore circuit.
Republic Grandstand: Located at turn 5, this grandstand offers a view of cars approaching from turn 4 before navigating through the bend of turn 5. It stands out as one of the more economical grandstands in Singapore.
Connaught Grandstand: Found at Turn 14, the Connaught Grandstand covers the braking zone after Singapore’s new straight. Witness cars braking up close and potential overtaking actions toward Turn 14. This grandstand, along with the Padang Grandstand, is the most budget-friendly option, making it a highly recommended choice if it aligns with your budget.
Walkabout tickets at Marina Bay are equivalent to general admission tickets at other races, meaning you won’t have an assigned seat, allowing freedom to move within a designated area. The circuit features elevated viewing platforms, some offering unobstructed track views. However, the standing maps may occasionally obstruct your view, providing only glimpses of the cars on the track.
The optimal days for Walkabout ticket enjoyment are Friday and Saturday, as there are fewer fans vying for space on the viewing platforms. A recommended strategy is to explore various viewing points on the initial days, select your preferred spot, and arrive early on Sunday to secure it for the race.
Singapore offers two types of Walkabout tickets – Zone 4 only and all zones (Premier Walkabout), both available as three-day tickets. The pricier Premier Walkabout tickets grant access to Zone 1, making it a compelling choice. Zone 1 has fewer fans, with most having grandstand or hospitality access, enhancing the chances of securing a prime trackside seat. Notable viewing areas for Premier Walkabout ticket holders include Turns 1-3, Turn 5 (offering close-up action), and the final Turns 18-19. Zone 4 tickets provide a budget-friendly option, allowing access to viewing platforms on Esplanade Drive and Raffles Avenue, as well as entry to major concerts on the Padang stage, exclusively within Zone 4.
Ensure you make the most of your visit with these essential details:
Visa information
It’s essential to note that a Singapore visa serves as pre-entry permission, not an immigration pass. This authorization allows the holder of a valid Singapore visa to travel to Singapore and seek entry. However, the actual grant of an immigration pass is subject to the determination of ICA (Immigration & Checkpoints Authority) officers at the point of entry. Possessing a valid visa alone does not ensure entry into Singapore.
The duration of stay granted is specified on the visit pass endorsement stamped in your passport. Importantly, this period is independent of the validity of your visa. Be aware that the ICA officers make the final decision regarding entry during your arrival in Singapore.
If your travel document* is issued by any of the listed countries or regions below, a visa is required for entry into Singapore.
Afghanistan, Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Egypt, Georgia, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (Document of Identity), India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Libya, Macao Special Administrative Region (Travel Permit), Mali, Moldova, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, People’s Republic of China (PRC), Russia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Yemen.
*Please note that the requirements may vary, so it is recommended to check the specific criteria for your country or region before planning your travel to Singapore.
Countries or regions that do not require an Entry Visa
If your travel document is issued from a country or region that is not listed above (ie Australia), you do not require a visa. However, you must meet the entry requirements below before you can be considered for entry:
If you are eligible for entry, you will receive a Visit Pass which will indicate the period of stay granted. Check your Visit Pass and the number of days you can stay before leaving the checkpoint.
While in Singapore, on a visit pass, you are not permitted to engage in any business, professional or paid employment activities.
Electricity
Ensure your devices are compatible with the British 3-pin power outlets in Singapore. Don’t forget to bring an adapter for hassle-free charging. The voltage is 230 Volts at 50 Hz.
Climate
Experience Singapore’s tropical climate, with temperatures around 31 degrees Celsius and high humidity. There are two seasons: the wet season (October to April) and the dry season (May to September). Pack accordingly for the consistent warm weather.
Clothing
Sturdy walking shoes are recommended for exploring the circuit. During the day, protect yourself with sunglasses, a hat or cap, and sunscreen. Given the tropical climate, be prepared for occasional rain by packing an extra shirt, umbrella, or poncho.
Transportation
Utilize Singapore’s excellent public transportation network, including the efficient Mass Transit Transport (MRT) system. A Singapore Tourist Pass allows unlimited use of buses, metros, and trains. Alternatively, explore the city on a rented bike, a popular and convenient option.
Currency
Singapore uses the Singapore Dollar (SGD). ATMs are widespread, and most places accept debit or credit cards. Have multiple payment options, including cash, and check if your bank card is activated for international transactions.
Waste Management
Singapore is renowned for cleanliness. Dispose of waste responsibly to avoid fines. Use designated bins and contribute to maintaining the city’s cleanliness.
