The Grand Prix Guide for the Turkish GP

FORMULA 1 in Turkey returns! The Turkish Grand Prix will once again be held at the Istanbul Park Circuit. The race was first part of the Formula 1 calendar from 2005 until 2011, before returning in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

The FORMULA 1 Grand Prix in Turkey will be held at the Istanbul Park Circuit. The circuit features 14 corners and has a length of 5.338 kilometres. Expected lap times in 2027 are projected to be around 1:25. The race will be contested over 58 laps, covering a total distance of 309.396 kilometres.

The lap record still dates back to the first edition of the Grand Prix and is held by Juan Pablo Montoya, who set a time of 1:24.770. The circuit is a familiar venue for Formula 1, and many fans are excited about the return of the Turkish Grand Prix.

The most iconic feature of the circuit is Turn 8. This corner consists of four fast and flowing bends and is regarded as one of the most challenging and recognizable sections of the track.

The first Turkish Grand Prix was held in 2005 at the Istanbul Park Circuit, the same venue that hosted every edition of the Turkish Grand Prix. Kimi Räikkönen won the inaugural Turkish Grand Prix, followed by three consecutive victories for Felipe Massa. With these wins, Massa remains the driver with the most victories in Turkey.

The following edition in 2009 was won by Jenson Button driving for Brawn GP. In 2010, Lewis Hamilton won the Turkish Grand Prix after both Red Bull drivers crashed while battling for the lead. Sebastian Vettel won the 2011 edition, which was the last Turkish Grand Prix before the race was removed from the Formula 1 calendar.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Turkish Grand Prix returned to the Formula 1 calendar in 2020 and 2021. The 2020 edition was won by Lewis Hamilton after a chaotic qualifying session on Saturday, where Lance Stroll secured his first-ever pole position. With this victory, Hamilton also secured his seventh World Championship title.

The most recent edition of the Turkish Grand Prix took place in 2021, with Valtteri Bottas taking victory for Mercedes.

The Istanbul Park Circuit features several grandstands where visitors can take their seats. The Main Grandstand is for the Formula 1 in Turkey, as at many circuits, the largest grandstand and offers an excellent view of the start and finish line.

In addition, multiple grandstands will be located around the circuit. Along the main straight, there are three additional grandstands besides the Platinum Main Grandstand. On the outside of Turn 1, the Silver 1 Grandstand is expected to be located. From this grandstand, spectators will have a great view of the opening corner sequence of the circuit.

Between Turns 3 and 4, as well as near Turn 6, two additional grandstands are expected to be placed, offering views of some of the circuit’s most technical sections. Located in another technical part of the track is the Silver 2 Grandstand. From this grandstand, visitors are expected to have a good view of Turns 4, 5, and 6. Directly next to this grandstand is the Silver 3 Grandstand, which provides spectators with a great view of Turns 6 and 7.

The Silver 4 Grandstand is located at the iconic Turn 8 of Istanbul Park. From this grandstand, visitors have a fantastic view of the incredibly fast and challenging sequence of corners that makes Turn 8 so famous.

Around Turn 10, there are two grandstands. The Silver 5 Grandstand is located before Turn 10, while the Silver 10 Grandstand is positioned after the corner. Turn 10 is the final corner before drivers enter the long straight at Istanbul Park.

The Silver 7 Grandstand is located at Turn 12, which is widely considered one of the best overtaking opportunities at the Istanbul Park Circuit. From this grandstand, spectators have a good view of Turns 12, 13, and 14.

The final grandstand at the circuit is the Silver 8 Grandstand. From here, visitors also have a view of Turns 13 and 14. Additionally, this grandstand provides a great view of the exit of the final corners, the cars entering the main straight, and the pit lane entry.

The Istanbul Park Circuit is relatively easy to reach. The circuit is located close to Sabiha Gökçen International Airport, which is the most convenient airport for visitors travelling to the Grand Prix. From the airport, the circuit can be reached by car or taxi in approximately 15 minutes.

Visitors travelling from the city centre of Istanbul should expect a longer journey, with the drive taking around one hour depending on traffic conditions. Public transport is also available, although this journey usually takes more time and requires several connections.

During the Grand Prix weekend, additional shuttle buses and special transport services are expected to operate, making it easier for fans to travel between Istanbul and the Istanbul Park Circuit.

The Turkish Grand Prix has not yet released any information regarding ticket sales. It is expected that several ticket categories will be available, including grandstand tickets, General Admission tickets, and VIP packages.

The Grand Prix is expected to sell out quickly, as it is a very popular event among Formula 1 fans. For existing fans, it is a highly appreciated race, while new visitors will have the opportunity to experience a unique and challenging circuit. In addition, the location of the circuit is an important factor contributing to the expected high demand for tickets.
