Australian Grand Prix – Albert Park Circuit, Melbourne

Over the past years, the FORMULA 1 Australian Grand Prix – Melbourne has usually been scheduled as the season opener. Due to COVID-19, the 2021 edition of the Australian GP in Melbourne has been moved to the end of the F1 calendar in November, before being cancelled altogether.

In 1996, the Australian GP moved from Adelaide to the Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne. Since then, the street circuit around Albert Park Lake, has hosted the Australian Grand Prix every year. The Albert Park Circuit contains 16 turns and is 5,303 meters long. It is a narrow circuit with few overtaking opportunities. Lewis Hamilton sums it up on the radio at the opening race of the 2017 championship: “There is no way I can get pass this guy.” Lewis drove a much faster Mercedes, but could not overtake Max Verstappen in his Red Bull. The Australian GP is also the home race of Daniel Ricciardo. The always smiling Australian still waits for his first podium in front of his home crowd. In 2016 Daniel achieves his best result in the Australian Grand Prix: fourth place.
