F1 France – Circuit Paul Ricard
Formula 1 returned to France in 2018, at the Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet, near Marseille. Before 2018, the French Grand Prix was last held on this circuit in 1990 and was won by ‘Le Professeur’ Alain Prost. In total, the Grand Prix of France has been organized fourteen times since 1971 at the Circuit Paul Ricard. The circuit’s was named after the eccentric millionaire and financier Paul Ricard. Since 1999, the track is owned by another eccentric millionaire (say billionaire) Bernie Ecclestone – remember him?
The layout of the Circuit Paul Ricard can be configured in no fewer than 167 ways. Formula 1 opts for the 5,861-meter layout. This includes the chicane halfway up the 1.8 kilometre Mistral Straight. In total, the circuit has 15 turns and three straights. Lewis Hamilton won last edition of the French Grand Prix, back in 2019.
Unfortunately, the last edition of 2020 was cancelled for obvious reasons. The 2021 edition was held without spectators. We cannot wait to welcome the 2022 French GP back with a big cheer from the audience!
