The Shanghai International Circuit is located in the northwest of Shanghai. It has been home to the GP of China since 2004. The 5,451 kilometer circuit is designed by Hermann Tilke and Peter Wahl. Did you know that the design comes from the Chinese character for “Shang” (上), meaning “high” or “above”?
The circuit contains 16 bends. Furthermore, you recognize it by its long straights, with some long twisters. The 2016 race proves that the GP of China is ideally suited for overtaking. To give you an idea: no fewer than 128 successful actions were recorded. This is the highest number since counting began in 1983.
On the Shanghai International Circuit, Red Bull Racing achieved its first Formula 1 victory. This happened in 2009, with Sebastian Vettel behind the wheel.
Are you curious about the details of the circuit? In our free downloadable China Circuit Guide you will find an overview. You will see the course of the circuit, the location of the grandstand as well as an overview of the facilities.
